General Discussion:
At BarSmart, when we drink, we talk. And when we talk, we argue. And when we argue, we laugh at each other. And then we drink some more. And then a bottle breaks and someone falls down the steps. We laugh some more. By the time we clean up the blood, everyone forgets what we were discussing. So we decided to open a General Discussion Forum to stop the bloodshed. This forum is a catch-all area for topics that don't fit in to other categories on the site. Post away...

Ok.. Here's the senario..

I realized 2 weeks ago that my drivers license was going to expire on 11/02/2009
So I go to PennDot.com Drivers License renewal website and attempt to renew it.. It gave me an error. I figure the website is having a problem and I try again in a couple days and got the same error. So I e-mail PennDot through their online form. I get the following e-mail from them today:

Thank you for contacting Driver and Vehicle Services.

Our records indicate that you are not able to renew your driving
privileges at this time due to a stop in Ohio. Please contact the Ohio
DMV at 614-752-7500 to address this situation and to have them remove
your name from the National Driving Registry.

Unfortunately, we are not able to renew your license until this has been
cleared.

Thank you for your inquiry,
Marcy Greene

I think to myself, Humm, I've only had 1 citation in Ohio back in 2004 but I mailed in the fine for that 5 years ago! Must be some mistake that shouldn't be too difficult to clear up. Right? OH NOOOOO....

I call the number provided in the e-mail, and after 2 hours of nothing but busy signals, it finally rings. then I'm on hold for 20 min before it finally sends me to a live human to talk to. I'm told that according to their records the I didn't have car back then!!! I'm like WTF!?!?! I Never had a laps of insurance back then!!! I'm sure my insurance provider can clear this up for me.. Right?? No.. It gets more complicated.... She asks me what vehicle did I own back then. I tell her it was a 2000 Chevy Malibu. She says that she has on record that I was driving a 2000 Saturn. Now I remember the night I was pulled over. My friend Crystal was with me and we were driving her room mates car.. I didn't remember the make/model but that doesn't matter. I don't remember if we showed proof of ins or not but I wasn't cited for not having it so I assume I must have given it to the cop, but alas here this chick is telling me on the phone that I have a choice.. Either pay the $125 dollar restoration fee with will get my name off of some national "Do Not License this guy" list in 3 business days, or track down the guy who owned this car 5 years ago, who has since moved to Florida somewhere and no one has heard from him in years, and have him get in touch with his insurance company to have them send Ohio BMV proof that he had insurance on 09/10/2004!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should feel lucky, I have an ex wife in Florida (you know the state where criminals go to get lost) that owes her son over $14,000 in back child support. Try and call them or go to www.myflorida.com everything in the state is on that web page, from the DMV, to criminal court cases, to welfare, to old people health insurance, and everything in between. I call them to talk about the case, not only am I on hold for an easy ahlf hour to 45 minutes, they then tell me they can't discuss the case with me I have to go thru Allegeny County. I call Allegheny County to send them a letter (because they can't call and talk to anybody, so they tell me) just to receive a letter back 3-4 months later with wrong information on it and I start the process all over again. This has been going on for 7 years now. She finally had a court date and they told her if she paid $150.00 and promise to get a job in the next 6 months they wouldn't throw her in jail. I wish I could buy a get out of jail free card for $150.00. Now that's a huge
WTF.

And it is your fault Steve so stop whining. Anytime you drive any vehicle, you are responsible to know if it is legal and in good operating condition. So pay your fine. ::;^|::

It was my friend Crystal's room mates car!!! Granted, Crystal was a smoking hot 20 year old stripper, but her room mate was a guy in his late 30's/early 40's with a damn good job working for Bank One (who got bought out by JPMorgan Chase at that time). This isn't some irresponsible ass hole who couldn't afford to pay the insurance and it lapsed or anything, AND I even though I don't remember if we showed the cop the insurance card or not, I do know that I did NOT get a ticket for failing to have proof of insurance!! I only got a ticket for making an illegal uturn (thanks to Crystal)..

But low and behold, Crystal still have the same cell number and I was actually able to reach her.. She still has contact with Wayne even though he's in Florida and will help me get this all resolved..

I have house insurance with company A and car insurance with company B.

Company A calls me and says that if I get car insurance through them they can give me a package policy combining my house insurance and my car insurance together. This they tell me would result in paying less for car insurance than I was currently paying company B.

So I told them to give me a quote and I'd think about it. A week later I get a call and they ask if I have received the paperwork on it and I said no. They said they'd send it out again, I looked at the quote and it was more than I was paying company B so I just threw it away.

Two weeks later I get a call stating that if I want the deal all I have to do is sign it and send it in at which point I told them I wasn't going to do it and politely hung up.

4 months later I get pulled over for something expected and:

Driving without insurance
Driving with a suspended plate
Failing to return a suspended plate
Something else related to insurance
and something else related to the plate

something like 1600.00 in fines.

Apparently the agent put the insurance through without my knowledge or canceled the quote incorrectly which caused Company A to automatically notify the state that I had canceled insurance and boom all hell breaks loose.

Penndot sent me some letters but I didn't bother opening them because I thought they were early registration letters for one or both of my two trailers .

I was able to get all of the fines nulled out in court but it was a big hassle.

All I did was go to company B's website and print out the proof of insurance from the time period I was pulled over.

PROTIP: The court did not call Company B to verify that the proof of insurance printouts from the web were valid.

They just looked at them and nodded at each other and that was it.

That is all well and good, This isn't dealing with fighting a fine in PA, or even fighting a fine in OH! No citation was given to me for this!!! The chick I talked to on the phone said, we have this address in Ohio that we've been mailing things to for 5 years and you've never responded..

My Address is in PA!!!!!!!!!!!! But because they put me on some national "don't renew this guys drivers license" list I have to get this cleared up with the Columbus Ohio BMV before I can renew my PA License. So it's either track down Wayne Foster (which I've already talked to someone who can get a hold of him) and hope he can help clear this all up or pay $125 dollar restoration fee in Ohio!!!

Is this all new? I was pretty sure traffic violations do not carry over from state to state. The child support stuff should and is criminal.

The Violation does not, except in the case of DUI and probably one or two others, but they can still put you on the list for not having paid the fine. That's how they get you. I got a letter for not having paid a parking ticket in New York City for a car I no longer owned but I could not renew my license until I took care of the fine.
