I stopped in to the Lyndora Hotel a few weeks ago for lunch and the service was quick and friendly. The food was good and the company was awesome! The owner actually came out and brought us samples of their sauces for the wings. I would recommend the Jamaican jerk personally. My fiance got one of the sandwiches and it was huge, also the prices are more than reasonable. The atmosphere is classic 70's-80's bar, not much to look at, but the food and service definitely make up for it. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes good food I will definitely be back.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

This was my first visit to the Double T Bar and Grill. The bartender was very friendly, as were most of the patrons and the beer was cold and served quickly. The bar is a little small but there is plenty of seating both at the bar and tables. The lighting is dim but the place was really clean. I will be back - maybe on a wing or steak night
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

I've been to Mario's on several occasions I was always treated really well every time I have been there! The beer is always cold and the bartenders are always friendly each time I go, I always feel like one of the regulars. The place gets really crowded when the nearby power station is doing some work, but even with a full bar the bartenders keep up really well. I don't think i have ever waited more than a minute or two to have my drink refreshed. I would recommend this place to anyone that is in the area even if just to stop in for a quick beer and good conversation.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

Primanti Bros. is by far the best place to eat in the southside for a quick bite to eat. I have been a long time cusotmer at all of the Pittsburgh area locations, mostly the South Side location. However, the last 2 times the service was TERRIBLE. I unfortunately got stuck with the same girl both times too! Hopefully next time it will be better.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

We spent the week at 7 springs which also included a few nights at the Matterhorn. I have nothing but good things to say about it. The atmosphere and friendliness of the staff and other patrons was awesome. It looked to be a promotional event and miller lite/barsmart took the bar atmosphere to a new level with games and other events that drove interaction with the customers. It was a very friendly place and I would definitely go back. The drinks are very reasonable priced. You can get pitchers or indiv. beers but more importantly, was there selection of imports. They had a wide array of shots and the bartenders always had a solid recommendation. The live music, friendly staff, and overall atmosphere made this a great establishment.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

All Star Sports Bar & Grill - No Stars For Service!

Ok, about All Star... This place is definitely not a bad place to go to watch a game, there are several large projection TVS and large screens mounted everywhere. So I really don't think there is a bad seat in the house in terms of actually being able to see a major sporting event here. They also do have a pretty good beer selection for the beer snobs out there, not going to blow your mind, but not bad.The place is large, clean and at least during the day has more of a family restaurant type feel than bar.The downside at least when I was there, was service was less than stellar. Now I know they were understaffed that day and crowded, and I make exceptions for this sort of thing, but repeatedly not getting what you ordered EVER and getting the WRONG things when you do get something doesn't impress me. I give concessions for taking longer to get what you order when you are busy and understaffed, but not for completely blowing the orders or delivering them at all. Some of the wait staff were abrasive, and others were excellent. If I had to recommend anything to this bar's owners it would be better service. I will go back again during another sporting event sometime and see if I have a better review, but for now, I have a hard time giving this place more than a 6.The place is a nice place, but you are in a service business, and we dropped some serious bucks while we were there, we weren't the guys sitting in the corner ordering 1 dozen wings to share and water for the time we were there. This place probably could top out at a 8-9 range if they took care of the service issues.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

I was at the Double D on Sat. The place looks really nice at least what I could see of it. We walked in and the place was packed. The bartender came up to us very quickly. We got two bottles of beer and a double captain and coke for $14 not bad, the captain was STONG! Which I think it needed to be if anyone was going to stay there!! The place is soo small that no one could move, the D.J. is set up in the very front of the bar against the window, which for the little bit of time that I was there he sounded ok. We thought that there may have be more room in the back so we tried to squeeze past the crowd. As we were walking back one of the employees asked that we stop so that the bar backs could stock beer. In walked to guys carrying cases of beer, the cooler is right out in the bar up against a wall so no one could get past them, we waited and tried to move into the back when they were done!! Big mistake, the place was so crowded that no one could move, people were trying to squeeze past to get to the bathroom I actually ended up pushing some poor girl that was sitting behind me at a table into the wall. That was enough for me, I squeezed my way back to the front of the bar. They were still letting people in, maybe Im just getting too old to be packed in like a sardine. This place maybe a little better during the week but Im not even sure if I will give them a second chance!
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

I thought this might be a good place to go for burgers and chicken with my husband and my 3 year old, because it's nearby our home. I was very wrong. The service was incompetent and rude. We waited an hour and a half for food, and it hadn't yet arrived when we got our drink tab and left. The kitchen must consist of a toaster oven and a fry-baby, because the other patrons were served haphazardly at a snail's pace. When we asked the waitress about our food order, she rolled her eyes and walked away. We will never return!
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

This Sat. was the third time I had ever been in Mr Jacks bar, and the first time I have ever gone in sober. Mr. Jacks is small and the crowd consists of mainly regulars. The batender was friendly, however was a little pre occupied with the olympics. The bar itself is very out dated and could use a good cleaning. There were several T.V.'s and I believe one flat screen. There was a pool table in the back that was being used as a couch for a few of the guys in the back. There was a limited liquor and beer selection which is always a little disappointing. All in all I figured out why I only go to this bar when I am drunk!!
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

The William Penn Tavern is probably one of the lesser pretentious bars over in Walnut area of Shadyside. The price of specials was reasonable, the crowd was decent, the tented outdoor area was nice too.The staff and bartenders have treated me well when I've been there. I can honestly say I'm not really someone you're going to find hanging around Walnut in Shadyside often, but if you do find yourself in that area, this is probably as close to a nice neighborhood bar as you are going to find close to Walnut.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

I have been to La Casa 3 times now and each time it gets better! The waitstaff is one of the friendliest around and they def. remember your face. For the first time I was able to try white sangria and its as good as (if not better) than red. The portions of food are average size for Tapas but they do have options for bigger servings. The deck in the back has a very nice atmosphere where you can enjoy a peaceful conversation. All in all I'll be going back their again and again and again
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

It has 3 pool tables upstairs that are always free to play. The downstairs area of the bar opens at 10PM and has a dance floor and has has a younger crowd (people mostly in their 20s). The upstairs bar is more has a neighborhood bar feel and has people of all ages (20s to 60s). The female bartenders they employ there are all really cute.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

Michael's is a wonder bar, the bartenders were very friendly and quick. Every now and again they got a little caught up in conversation, but I didn't have to wait very long. I'm from the city's North Side and normally don't go into McKees Rocks (just never heard anything positive about the neighborhood) but a friend of mine moved there and I promised her I would check the place out.Much to my surprise, the bar was very well kept and clean, the bathrooms could have used some attention, but, whatever. The drinks were good and cheap!!

I did attend Heat's grand opening Friday night. This is the old Pure and Moto club. I saw the event on facebook and rsvp to guarentee me admission and get a free drink. So I figured what the heck! I wasnt really sure what to expect after seeing that the bar is 18 and over. Im 27 and wasn't too excited to party with people that weren't old enough to drink. But my boyfriend, roommate and I headed out. Apon arriving there was a large line. We got there at 9pm because the flyer said doors open at 9. Well we waited in the cold for about 10 mins..the line wasn't moving. I heard that there was another line shorter then the one we were in on the other side of the door for VIP. Which I figured was me since I rsvp with someone that worked there. We went over and it was warmer due to the huge plastic sheet covering the sidewalk. Well we stood in that line for over 30mins. They were not letting anyone in the door. Doors were to open at 9..and at 9:30 no one was really going in. The staff outside weren't really sure what they were doing. They were all too busy looking important to try to get the people waiting outside in the cold inside. I was right by the window and at 9:30 there was maybe 10 people inside the bar. But they weren't letting many people in.Finally it was our turn to go in. We were ID and then given a stamp on the hand to say you were 21. Walking in it was crowded with people trying to get to the coatroom, upstairs and to pay. They need to fix that because apparently that was the hold up and thats why the line wasnt moving. It was 5.00 to get in..since we were on the list we received a free drink ticket. To the right was the 18 and older dance room and to the left was the downstairs bar. We decided to go to that bar. We sat down and there was about 6 bartenders at the bar. We were served quicky only because we were the other ones in the room. This bartender was nice. Drinks were in a plastic cup and a little on the weak side. We sat at the bar for a bit and ordered a few more drinks...they were still a little weak so we decided on a shot. A different bartender came over and we asked for a purple hooter..he didnt know how to make it or what was in it...My boyfriend told him what was in it and he made something, but it sure didnt taste like a purple hooter. While we were sitting at the bar I started to notice the people coming in. A lot them them were young def under the age of 21. We also saw a few shot "people" I say people because they were guys only wearing a RED speedo and bow tie. Which was weird because you usually see girls selling shots. We then deceided to go upstairs. We grabed our drinks and headed out the door. Only to be told that we aren't allowed to leave the room with out drinks. We could only drink them in the bar room or order more upstiars. So we drank them and walked upstairs. Once turning the corner we ran into 3 drag queens. I was very surprised to see that. I wasn't sure what was going on and as I looked around I noticed more guy couples on the dance floor and walking around shirtless and in speedos. My boyfriend wanted to go back downstairs so we did. I asked the bartender if this was a gay club and she said "gay friendly" I had no idea that this bar was gay friendly. We stayed a little longer and left around 12..there was still a long line waiting to get in.I give this a four because I wasn't too impressed with this club, Its just another club using that space. I used to work at Pure and its the same decor but with a different name. The staff was nice, but you could tell that they have never bartended before. Like any new club the kinks have to be worked out, so I would like to go back, but just with the girls this time. I wish they would have said it was gay friendly before I came down because then I wouldnt have brought my boyfriend. I also dont like that its 18 and older. I wasn't impressed, but will give it one more try.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

My friends and I decided to go there after we bowled most of the night at Foward Lanes. None of us have eaten there (and we've lived in the burgh all our lives what a shame lol), but we heard such great things about it, especially there desserts. We were all initially hungry for cake, but decided to get some real food instead. What a mistake. My dish was not up to par. I ordered shrimp bruschetta. It wasn't "garlicky" enough and the sauce clotted up like it had cottage cheese in it. Yuck. My friend also didn't like his tortellini (not sure I spelled it correctly). Service was kind of slow, but is to be expected on a Saturday night. But the dessert made up for the horrible food. I ordered a 5th dimension chocolate cake. It had like 5 layers of chocolate cake, chocolate syrup, the works. It was rich, luscious, decadent, basically heaven. And my friend ordered a cheesecake with strawberries. Fresh and yummy. Bathroom was very large and clean. Go for the desserts, it's what they are known for, certainly not the food.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

Pipers Pub and Pokey Pourer

This was my second visit to Pipers Pub. The first time was on a Sunday morning and we went there for a late breakfast where we sat in the "restaurant" area. My second visit was by myself on a Tuesday evening for dinner. This time I sat at the bar. Walking in and taking a stool at the bar I noticed that the bartender seemed to be preoccupied with a waitress and virtually ignored me. I sat there patiently waiting while I perused the bar area probably for about 5 minutes. They have two large LCD televisions at either end of the bar playing sports channels. I kept myself occupied by reviewing the huge selection of beer taps that line the bar and checking out the other parts of Pipers Pub.Finally getting the bartender's attention he offered me a menu and took my drink order. I quickly knew what I wanted but the bartender failed to return for another 8 to 10 minutes to take my order. I have to note that there were only 3 people plus myself at the bar this night. The restaurant area had about 14 to 16 people in it. So it wasn't as if they were overwhelmed. I simply made a mental note and reminded myself that there was no hurry as I had plenty of time to meet my friends. The fish and chips arrived. This was perhaps the largest platter of fish and chips I've received here in Pittsburgh. It was so huge I think it had its own zip code and national anthem dedicated to it. Taste? Good, but not the best I've had here in the Burgh. However, on the plus side I would state that this dish could've been ordered for two people and shared with no issues. I failed to conquer the "nation sized" portion of fish and chips on my platter and thus surrendered my knife and fork to the bartender after making a heroic attempt. But seriously, the two pieces of fish were much larger than I could eat. Probably several pounds of fresh fried fish along with a heaping side of fresh cut French fries. The bill for my evening was a bit over $11. Not too bad I think. Even though I had to wait on the bartender "visiting" with the waitress and "chatting up" the ladies sitting next to me; I would return. As the food here is really good. Last time at Pipers Pub I had the Shepards Pie. It was extremely hot direct from the oven and was like molten lava on my plate...but very delicious and a huge portion! Don't miss out on their gigantic selections of beer and their incredible food at Pipers Pub. Overall I would give them a 9 even though the bartender wasn't as attentive as he could have been. I won't hold Pipers Pub totally accountable for just one employee that seemed to have other thoughts on his mind during such a cold night. Being a non-smoking bar is another added bonus in my book.Pros:Gigantic beer selectionGreat food with huge portionsNon-smokingAtmosphereCons: Pokey bartender
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

Love the backdraft! Great bartenders, great food, great prices. The DJ plays a variety of music and plays requests, so anyone can go and have a good time.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart

Agreed, it is not the cleanest place but its not really dirty. The bathroom is clean, which is more than i can say for some other places in south side. I love Brewski's and have been going there for about 10 years. They got a NEW electric hand dryer in the ladies room (not sure about the men's room), so no more dirty hand dryer. Drinks are cheap and strong. Never had a problem there, know most of the regulars. I'd take anyone here.
View more Info about this bar at Barsmart
