i happen to work down the street from bites and brews, so i come here very often. i'm a big fan. they have some really delicious appetizers and pizza available almost all night. they also have a very large beer selection and prices aren't too expensive. the staff is super friendly and get to know you quickly if you're a repeat customer.
i've only had a mixed drink here once, but it was pretty strong and not too expensive. i only have one complaint and that is that the pizza is often a little burnt. but when they don't burn it, it's super yummy! the atmosphere is also warm and casual. they offer outside seating when the weather is nice as well.

Bites and Brews has a lot of good stuff in it, if you can make it over to the bar. Last Saturday I would say there were at double their capacity easily.

If they made it bigger I would be a fan. I found it annoyingly crowded for Shady Side.

Cool place. The pizza was great and they had 30 beers on tap if I counted correctly. The waitresses were friendly too.

great place, kind of small but their draft beer selection is top notch, prices are slightly high at 5 dollars for a 20oz microbrew or import, but the service is great and you are taken care of as soon as you walk up to the bar. Also, the pizza is unbelievable after a few 20oz'ers. Avoid during big Pitt or Steelers games unless you like standing.

Ok, for a college kid, or even an adult, there are generally two types of bars to visit in Shady Side. There are the loud, crowded, preppie bars for the young'ns and there are the few neighborhoodesque, non-preppie places. Luckily (my opinion) Bites and Brews falls into the latter category. It is nice to just show up in comfy jeans and a tee shirt and chill with friends over a cold beer. Bites and Brews does make good mixed drinks (and sometimes you might even get a shot on the house!!), but let us focus on what they do best--beer. The place has a good variety of imports and micros, and many are on tap. Of course it is probably a better deal to get the larger glass (20 oz, I believe), but when tasting a beer for the first time I enjoy getting the "baby brew,"--the smaller option. Bites and Brews does offer food, and the list consists of specialty sandwiches or pizza. I wuld think that the sandwiches are good, but I know the pizza is delicious, and the slices are rather ample. I believe that pizza is the best food to eat with beer, and their pizza is an excellent accompaniment. Specials are from 9-11pm.
