A new bar and grill has recently opened on E.Carson on the South Side next door to Diesel and across from Marios, calling itself "Local Bar and Kitchen". Let me be the first to say that it's name is very fitting! Local offers a comfortable environment that mixes the historic decor from various steel mills with a modern flare, allowing the old Pittsburgh to meet the new. It feels as if it has truly been a local establishment for years. They offer a full bar downstairs, conjoined with a dining area, as well as the largest roof top bar in the South Side. Not only is the drink variety great, but the menu is fabulous as well. Offering items such as brick oven pizzas and "burghers", Local spans a wide range of delicious meals, all of which focus on local ingredients and traditions. Local also possess a very friendly staff! All service there was prompt and polite. It is definitely worth a stop to check out the new place next time you are on the southside.

This is by far one of my most favorite bars in the South Side and possibly Pittsburgh. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is delicious. Personally, I like to have a yinzerita on the upstairs deck and enjoy the warm weather. There's always good music playing and fun to be had. They have specials daily and a really worthwhile happy hour. I highly recommend this bar. Oh, and did I mention the yinzeritas??! So good!!

One of the best bars in south side for day drinking. They open the front bay windows and rooftop patio during warmer weather. Highly recommend weekend brunch and the Bloody Mary bar. It can get pretty crowded, but usually a younger mix of 20-something's.

Local always has a good crowd and has very good food and drinks! I've always had good service there and it's in a good central location in South Side. One of my favorite bars to go!

This bar has a very friendly environment. The staff was very nice. Local also had a lot of beer choices as well as very good specials for happy hour. Their food was very good I recommend the pizza and wings. They were very good. They have a juke box and a dart board for entertainment. They weren't too busy on a weekday night but on the weekend they are packed. I would recommend thi place to check out the atmosphere and the prices are great. And there are other bars close by so you can always bar hop. Just leave time to park. Parking in the southside is limited.

I would definitely recommend this place for someone who wants to chill and relax. It has a mature croud and the decor is very welcoming and comforting. The outdoor deck upstairs is my favorite part, which is where I sit if I come here. This is a bar I usually go to for happy hour or to start off the night.

I went to Local's wine night on Wednesday. Their wine selection was good for a special discount night. There were several selections of wine at a discounted price rate. It was also not so crowded that you couldn't hear your company. It was a great balance of being a happening place but not to crowded.

I don't even know where to start with Local. I must say out of all the bars in southside, I bet I go to Local the most. I love the whole atmosphere on most nights (weekends are a little crowded for my taste). The decor is great and it is usually filled with people just looking to hang out and have a good time. Although I love the balcony upstairs, it tends to get crowded, so I usually spend the majority of my time downstairs. The downstairs has huge open windows facing east carson which makes you feel like you are outside anyway. DO NOT try to climb in or out of the windows though, they don't like that! haha. Out of all the things I could say about Local though, I would say the absolute best night to go is Wednesday nights for their Wine Wednesday with half off bottles of wine. Overall it is a great place to go and as I stated, i'd highly recommend it.

I've been to Local a few times - twice for dinner and plenty of times for late-night drinks.

The last time I was at Local was for a bachelorette party. We made reservations in advance (and actually submitted a food order in advance too), and didn't have any problems when we arrived. We sat in the main dining area, and we were able to push tables together to sit as one large group.

The food was above average - decent burgers, pizzas, large salads. We ordered a variety of drinks... while not super strong, definitely try out the sangria.

It was a fun environment. In the summer, the big windows are open to the action on Carson Street.

They usually have a deal that connects you with a small discount at Diesel if you eat dinner there for an event - ask when you make your reservation!

Local has a pretty neat set up but it gets too crowded sometimes and they block you off from going upstairs, that seems kind of pointless. Other than that the prices are pretty good and the food is excellent. If you decide to stop in i suggest a Yinzerita whether they decide to use the Penn Brewery Summer Berry or IC Light Mango the Yinzeritas will satisfy any Yinzer.

My husband, son and I stopped in here late Saturday afternoon for some lunch. It looked like a clean and friendly place but were disappointed within 10 minutes of sitting down. The hostess gave us a table as soon as we walked in which was nice and that was it. We waited for our waitress for 15 min. to even come to our table and I had to ask the hostess if we even had a waitress. It was not even busy except for the bar area and we had a 1.5yr old that does not have much of an attention span. It seemed to take forever for our food so we ended up canceling our order and going down the road to Carson Street Deli for take out which was fantastic. I don't recommend this place at all, too bad because it was relatively spacious and charming inside.

I have given this bar several tries (3), and have sadly been disappointed in the service each time. That's a big shame for a restaurant with such great potential.

The place actually looks fantastic - the windows in front open up to the street (which is really cool, especially in summer). The best place to sit IMO is up on the roof, there's a bar and some tables overlooking Carson Street. Fun atmosphere for talking and drinking. There's TVs located around the downstairs area, and plenty of tables and seats.

Unfortunately, that's where my praise stops. The service (at least in my experience) is extremely slow, and the one time we had a good waitress the kitchen kept us waiting for our food (a table of 5 on a Thursday night) for TWO AND A HALF HOURS. The waitress kept apologizing and gave us a free round, and eventually the manager came up and personally apologized and gave us our entire check for free. (We still tipped the waitress 20% on the bill because it was no fault of her own the kitchen sucked). Even when we got the food, a few plates were cold and not very good. I will say that the pizza was excellent.

The other 2 times I went to Local (once before and once after the 2.5 hour incident) I had a slow waitresses and bad mixed drinks. I feel like this place HAS the potential to be great, I just haven't personally experienced it. Who knows, others may have a different experience than I...but I really can't recommend this place to anyone.

I celebrated my 21st birthday here and it was perect! The upstairs patio was so refreshing and the drinks were made very well. I love the yinzer-Rita ! We also had dinner there and everything tasted so fresh and came very quickly despite the fact that there was 6 of us present. Two thumbs up !

We recently went to Local this past Saturday. There were 10 of us so we had made reservations for 7:30pm. We arrived a little late, but they still had our table reserved for us. The service was exceptional and the food was great!! I highly recommend the bbq chicken pizza ;). We were drinking and our waitress made sure that our glasses were always full. The decor was awesome and very original as well. Our group will definitely be returning in the near future!

I just discovered Local about a month or two ago, while at Mario's. What coerced me to go there was seeing the rooftop patio with string lights. I was fascinated having never noticed this place before, and not being able to find a name on the building anywhere. I asked the bouncer what it was called. I feel I can pinpoint the type of crowd who would enjoy this spot, based on my several visits there. If you are looking for a chill, open place to hang out with a group of friends, then this is definitely worth checking out. And by "open" I mean the downstairs "windows" are missing glass, if that creates a better picture. It's open to the street where it appears windows should be in the front of the building. When I go out, I usually only go out with a girlfriend or two, and this place is more for larger get togethers and groups of friends. That being said, when I'm here I'm usually looking around to see everyone mingling as if they all know each other, or at least large groups of them do. While I have met people here before, I would suggest skipping over Local if you are looking to make new friends. I've never eaten the food, but I've heard it's nothing to go gaga over. Drink prices are also a tiny bit steep in my opinion, I can get a cheaper mixed drink across the street at Mario's. The open rooftop is always what I make a beeline for, because although everyone up there does seem to know each other, it's such a cozy, warm atmosphere. Definitely a plus for this venue. As far as the crowd goes, I've seen business people, as well as college guys, as well as people who look like they just got off the couch and decided to come down. I rated a 6 because personally, it's a bit too quiet for my liking, but is definitely a nice spot worth checking out at least once!

I went to local this past Sunday and I was very impressed! What a great addition to Southside, its much more than your average bar with food. Its got a great atmosphere beautiful decor and a good looking friendly staff. Its accordion doors give it a nice open air feel so even though your inside it doesn't feel like it. I ordered their buffalo chicken pizza and a yuengling draft, which came in a monstrous mug. I have to say, this was probably one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time! and I could only finish half. Whats weird is I was expecting much less for an $8 pizza, and I think the beer was only 5 or 6 bucks. Overall a very good deal for a good meal and cold beer in Southside. after eating I went upstairs to check out the rooftop deck. There wasn't anyone out there (probably because it was 90+ degrees, but I could tell it would definitely be fun when it was busy. So if you get a chance check it out, I'l be back soon!

gave this place THREE chances.
attempt 1: took date there, food was OK, music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. very nice date, having to yell at each other for 45 min.
attempt 2: steak served with a butter knife? waitresses slow to check on us for drinks
3rd, and FINAL attempt: whoever was working the bar on 6.5.11 needs fired. i've never been ignored at such an empty bar. i wanted a drink, which would have led to food, but you had to be a pompous prick, even when I waived my arms at you, after waiting for 15 minutes.
may Local Bar and Kitchen rot in hell, I will never spend a dime there again. if you want bad service and a jersey shore atmosphere, it's just right for you.

I was really excited to check Local out. Atmosphwere great, food/service not so much. Went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Server could not have been more disinterested in doing her job - first gave my date tonic water instead of sprite and twice almost dropped food on us. I got the pretzel appetizer with 3 diff. sauces and it was very good. My date got a chicken sandwich which had 3 of the piddliest chicken strips I've ever seen. I had a salad - greens were fresh but overall nothing exciting. I love the interior and the porch, but the service and food are def. not worth it. Will stick to going there for a drink and not to eat.

I went to local the other day to eat. The food was ok, nothing special. love the open windows and the deck. feel the staff could really use an education on manners. There were no drink specials so we left and went to mario's

I really like this place.

The decor is very nice and the look made me comfortable when I walked in. The furnishings and bar have a slightly worn look to them (by design) and are pleasing to the eye. The front of the bar facing Carson St. has windows that can be open wide on nice days/nights. There is also an outdoor deck upstairs with a bar that would accommodate a decent number of people.

When I first went there the bartender was very friendly and introduced herself to me as Erin (I believe). She told me about the fire pies and burgers. I didn't want to eat anything heavy that day so I got a Cajun Chicken sandwich of some sort. It was very tasty. Later I went back with some friends and we got one of their pizzas. It was absolutely delicious!

I will definitely be going back to Local from time to time to test out more of their menu and see what else it has to offer.

I was really excited about checking out this new place. I went there during the awesome afternoon weather for a quick lunch with the girls. I didn't know what to expect, not even being sure the name was "local" but, after waiting 15 minutes for a server to show up and finally receiving menus I noticed a lot of their food is in fact from local businesses, which is always great to see.

The server was frustrating, seemed a little confused himself, and forgot our appetizer entirely. Our chicken sandwiches took 40 minutes to come out, and I'd like to account that for how new this place is.

The building in itself is cool, love the open aired restaurant for nice days, but the staff needs to keep their heads on their shoulders.
