Jekyl & Hyde is one of those places that every Pittsburgher should recommend to tourists looking for something that is uniquely Pittsburgh. Not only is this bar Halloween themed all 365 of the year, it has consistently weathered to storms of Pittsburgh nightlife for well over a decade now. I can't even being to count the number of theme bars that have closed since my first visit to Jekyl & Hyde. We have had jungle bars, martini bars, outdoor bars with palm trees and even McNasty bars and none of them have ever captured with Jekyl's has... a genuine sense of fun. They don't take themselves too seriously, all while keeping the customers happy. The service here is amazing. It's a smaller bar so that makes it easier to work I suppose, but some nights the place can fill to capacity and yet the bartender keeps up with it. In addition to being server quickly, I've never been served a bad drink here. Everything is well mixed, not too strong, not too weak and while every bar can have a bad day, I've never had a skunked bottle here either. This is a great place for the 21-30 crowd - and older. This may not be the best place to propose to your girlfriend, but if you did, and she said yes, you know you have a keeper!

Went to Jekyl and Hyde on a Thursday night. It is a cool place, different from most bars in southside. They don't serve food, but the drinks are very fairly priced and parking is a little easier to find on this side street. The bartenders were very friendly. It is a later crowd bar, with most people arriving around 11 or 11:30. I recommend for a good place to hang out with friends and sing karaoke.

If you are looking for a Halloween party experience in the middle of the summer then Jekyl & Hyde will be the place to go! This local dive bar at the bottom of 18th street of Southside is Halloween themed all year round! Cant go wrong if you want some decently priced drinks and some ghostly bartenders to cool you off this summer :D

I went to Jekyl and Hyde for the first time ever last night. For a horror movie fan, this is definitely the place for me to hang out! I loved the themed decor and drink specials. They also had really cheap Miller Lites on Fri while we were there ($1.50 bottles!). The only negatives about the bar are just that it is pretty small, so if it were really crowded I don't think I would want to stay very long, and the bathroom was walled with corrugated metal sheets but that fits the theme and was clean so no big deal. They also did not carry my favorite vodka (Clique) so that was a downer. I would recommend this bar for everyone to stop at, at least one time.

Clean place, mostly. Decent priced drinks and I like that they have themed drinks. I mean, if youre gonna go so far as to give your place a name that stands out and decorate in a way that is unique, you'd BETTER back that up with the booze! And they do. Off the main drag of the Sahside, so you dont have to worry about every fratbag and soro'ho walking in, so it doesnt become a Woo-girl fest. Good place, run smartly, taking chances with a theme, and succeeding. Keep it up guys!

A few months ago, I stopped in on a Thursday night for one of DJ Marty shows......let me tell you, I had a blast. I did not want to leave!! This man really knows how to put on a show!! I had a great time with friends singing and dancing. I kinda like the halloween theme all year round, its something to get used to though, but if you love halloween I an sure that wont be a problem. As busy as I am I wish I could tak ethe time to visit and hang at this bar. The place is always clean and the bartenders take care of you beyond what you expect. I recommend this bar to anyone, especially on Thursday nights if you are a karaoke fanactic!!! Trust me you will want to come back week after week!!

Extremely unique! I would come to Jekyl and Hyde every night I went out if it wasnt for a general vote of a group of friends. It's always a good time here with not only the atmosphere, but the theme parties and contests as well! Can't find anything like this bar, off the main drag through southside to enjoy a night of fun without all the crowds and traffic.

All I can say is WOW. My boyfriend has been going to this bar forever. When we met I was more of a club type girl so the idea of a dive bar kinda scared me. Well this place was great!

I've been going now for about 2 years. This place is awesome. Hardly ever any fights. You never really have to wait a long time for drinks because Carmella kicks butt at making them really fast. The decor ya either you love it or you might hate it. But do enough of the "evil shots" and I'm sure you will take a quick liking to it! lol.

I think one of the best things about this is bar is that its fun without the cover charge and tons of fighting. The only thing I do NOT like about this bar is the SMOKE. Oh my heavens! On nights when they have over 30 people in the bar the smoke is INSANE!

I really wish they would go to no smoking! A suggestion for them would to have some kick butt specials. Because being a bar that isn't located right on CARSON I think they would benefit.

OH and I am so excited the police station isn't right next door anymore. It was kinda freaky using the ladies room seeing cops out the window. Oh and the restrooms always smell like Fruit Loops!! Ya don't believe me ladies...go check it out for yourself! ha! Karaoke is the best night to come...Thursdays!

I love this bar! I am a huge fan of Halloween so this bar always puts me in a good mood. It definately stands out from other Pittsburgh bars. Plus they always have a free buffet during the Steeler games. FYI: The pierogies are AMAZING.

Fun Bar - This bar has a similar feel to Bar 11 but I like it so much more. Better drinks, better service, and better crowd.

"The Hyde" is open again and better than ever. After a short hiatus, Jekly and Hyde's is back in action and ready for good times. Great meeting place to begin the night and it is right in the heart of the South Side on 18th. See you there!

I heard this place was closed now? I've been here before in early summer '05, and it was small, but decent. Cool atmosphere, and people... but is it still open or not?

I'll admit, that I enjoy going to places with a bit of a dark or "monster" theme, but most of my friends that I drag in usually end up going back by themselves or suggesting that we start our adventures at Jeckyl. The beer selection is good, reasonably priced, and always improving. The featured mixed drink choices are always exotic and also reaonably priced. Free pizza is a perk on two evenings, and during certain special events as well. Speaking of, the special events rotate often, and the management enjoys doing events that are out of the ordinary. Also, due to the small capacity and the persuasiveness of the manager, there is constantly some kind of bar swag being given away, ranging from keychains and t-shirts to really cool contest premium items. J&H is a regular hangout for Southsiders, college students, the local parrotheads, and a fair amount of extremely attractive women. The DJs each have their own style and local following, so the crowd depends largely upon the entertainment as well as the event. Size-wise, the place is small, but service is usually decent even when the place is crowded. Restrooms: Well, I'm a guy, and am only looking to keep from getting arrested. (NOTE: This is next to the police station!) However, any bar where the manager is female AND uses the public resroom is guaranteed to have a clean ladies' room. Ask my wife, she has no problems using the facilities there. Jeckyl and Hyde has quickly become one of my favorite stops on a South Side crawl. Take a step into the "dark side" sometime and you will feel the same way!

There aren't many 30-somethings that hang out here, probably because of the dark themes and toys. Beware the smoke machine - in a bar this small, the scent can be a bit overwhelming. The bar top is curvy, and allows for maximum sitting space in this otherwise very tiny place. Despite its size, it's worth a visit.
