Typically my reviews don’t start with a history, but I feel like I must in this situation. Mario’s East Side Saloon is located at the former location of Doc’s. I always considered Doc’s one of the cornerstones of Shadyside and made it a regular stop when I was in the neighborhood to grab a drink up on the deck. Since new management has taken over, they have done a lot of work on the place and made numerous improvements that took it from a good bar to a great bar. The first thing you quickly notice when you walk in is the new position of the bar downstairs, new menu, a lot more televisions and just the overall clean up of the place. They have only been open a few weeks and are still training the new staff but if you enjoy stopping by Mario’s in the Southside you definitely need to stop by and checkout the new location.

I'm a fan of this place. It's slightly smaller than Mario's in the Southside but not by much. It's unfortunately just as crowded on the weekends though. But the set up of the place is pretty cool... chill downstairs with plenty of tables and smoking upstairs with 2 bars up there and 1 downstairs. The drinks are really good, I've had their long islands plenty of times and for 6 bucks, they sure make them well! The staff are all pretty friendly but always busy so it's sometimes hard to get quick service. The parking is also pretty nice, there's street parking but also a garage nearby. Plus if you park on the weekends and end up unable to drive home, you can leave your car until Monday morning in a lot of spots. The general crowd that hangs out here are younger, college to recently out of college age fun people. I've never had a bad experience here other than being unable to find a seat because of too many people.

This place is beautiful on the inside, they have two upstirs bars and a outdoor patioish upstairs (love the rooftop setting.) Three bars makes it really convenient to get a drink and the food prizes are extremely reasonable, I personally like the layout better than the one in the southside. It's not usually as crowded but that doesn't mean they aren't doing business, it always seems steady and trivia night is a big bring in. The bartenders are really nice and have good suggestions if they don't have exactly what you're looking for. $3 Penn pints when the Penn Brew girls are there is awesome! They have a few Penn Brews on tap, be sure to grab one next time you're in!

I have not been to Doc's/Marios East Side in years. However I went last weekend to watch a football game with friends. I was amazed at how nice the place is now. We ended up watching the game outside on the deck. It is completely covered and heated (for the most part). The pizza was as great as I remembered. The service was fast. A great place that I hope to goto again!

I LOVE this bar! I was taken by total surprise because I usually do not go out in shadyside. The place is so clean and the service was great. I was able to walk around and got a chance to sit out on the upstairs deck. Everything looks so new and vibrant. The drinks were priced well and their food menu had a lot to offer. If you are ever in this area I highly recommend you stopping by here!
