Mario's is now one of the best bars in Pittsburgh. Great selection, excellent service and one of the few places in town with very distinct smoking and non smoking areas.

It wasn't always this way... less than a year ago Mario's was primarily known for slow service and filthy bathrooms.

A group of new owners came in and, fortunately for us all, they remembered everything they liked about Mario's and fixed everything that they hated. Now the bathrooms are some of the nicest in town and the service is nothing short of professional.

Mario's is best described as two different bars. On the smoking side, called Blue Lou's, there is a complete bar, tables, booths and plenty of standing room. The round tables that look out on Carson are great for blocking off a little of your own space and the bar itself is always filled with friendly people eager to talk. The other side, Mario's, is non-smoking and offers the same great service and prices and just a little bit more space.

The menu is completely new! So if you were a fan of a certain item you may no longer find it listed. The good news is that the new owners are always around to listen to your suggestions. I'm trying to bring back the deep fried pickles myself.

If you haven't been to Mario's in a couple of years, remembering what the place used to be like. I highly suggest you spend a few hours there and see what a few hundred thousand dollars of cleaning and maintenance can do for a place.

The new Mario's is a winner. That's why BarSmart has given them the Most Improved Bar award for 2007!

Mario's is a really cool place to go. There are different floors with different bars, so can have a lot of people in it. There is a dart board, juke box, and arcade games to help entertain. They have decent drink selections and prices. Depending on the day they do different specials. Because of the prices and atmosphere Mario's gets very packed, but is still a good place to go when going out and having a fun night with friends. The only bad thing is parking down in the southside.

The atmosphere at Mario's is very relaxed and different. There are different floors to explore! The booths have a great wooden antique look! Monday night is wing night! Mario's has excellent jumbo wings and amazing buffalo chicken dip. The service was great, our server was attentive and helpful! Mario's is a MUST STOP for a fun night on the town!

Mario's is one of the bars that I attend when I go down Southside. My friends and I always like to start the night of here because it is always easy to get a drink and its not to packed. The food is pretty good, and they always have drink specials. It also has a good atmosphere and music is always playing. So if you ever go out in the Southside be sure to stop here. :)

Mario's is one of my all time favorite bars in pittsburgh. Its fun, great music is always playing, its a great atmosphere and more low key. We always like to start the night of here because it is always a good time. Anyone who visits the burgh shoudl check it out!

Finally got around to going to Marios last weekend. I hadn't been there since the ownership change and without the staff review of the place posted on barsmart I would never have gone back. This place is night and day from what it used to be. I received incredible service and the appetizer I ordered was delicious. Marios is finally being run the right way and I will no doubt be back again.

I like the new wood bar looks great. Very busy, too busy, you cant move, and the music sucks. Takes forever to get a drink.. Bathrooms are too small, but considering its an old building, i understand. Upstairs is great now there isn't a pool table in the way. My only complaint was that there are not any girls. Every guy there had on the newest American Eagle apparel and were complete yinzers. And No Girls.

I was in Mario's the other night for a pens game. I had not been in Mario's for years, and was extremely happy w/ the updated Mario's. Great TV's, Drinks, Food. And oh yeah, I saw a few of the pens there after the game. Awesome!!

This is one of my favorite bars in the Southside! The menu is great, and they always have a good beer selection. (especially for those of you who prefer more than the typical Bud, Miller, and Coors) The best part is that they have darts, pool that's still quarters (compared to 10 bucks and hour most other place down there), and FREE shuffle board and foose-ball. Lots of flat screens to watch the good ol' Black and Gold too!

Marios is always a favorite place to go during the week or weekends. The service has improved so much, but the drinks I have been getting lately have been weak. I like the atmosphere fun and laid back. Great place to go and hang out with a large group. Prices are similar to the other places in south side.

I went to Marios St. Paddys weekend and man what a blast. The bartenders were so much fun. The best part, me and my friend shared a boot of green beer. Thats right, a boot. It was awesome. I will defiantely be back in the near future!!!

I went there this past Monday because I read in the city paper if your name is Mario or your birthday is March 10th eat for free. How could I pass up free food? To make a long story short the bartender was very rude and I was not rude to her, service was horrible, food was horrible I will not ever step foot in that place

This is absolutely my new favorite place to hang out. The food is not your run of the mill typical bar food. You can tell alot of time and effort goes into each dish. And the staff is exceptional. I highly recommend this place!

Very nicely appointed, would make a great bar if only they had a clue. Bar matron knew nothing of the beers they served, and couldn't seem to care less. I'm guessing this place does a land office business with the yupster crowd, but it lacked the comfort and atmosphere that one might expect from such a detailed, homey place.
I was thoroughly disappointed, and doubt there will be any return trips for me or my clients.

I decided to give Mario's a try last night (11/08/2007) for some wings and a pens game and overall I was pleased with the experience. Probably the first thing I noticed was that no one was smoking, and after I sat down at the bar the bar tender informed me the side I was sitting on (Mario's) was actually non smoking now, and that the other side (blue lous) was was great leaving later and not reeking of cigarette smoke, and oddly enough, it seamed that as the night went on, the non-smoking side became far busier than the smoking side.

A couple of things I also noticed, the room was VERY clean. The floors looked newly refinished, the bar and all the wires that use to be there were all cleaned up and even the moose head was gone! The overall aesthetics of the place have always reminded me of an upstate New York bar or something similar and the refreshed look of the place was very well done. The bathrooms were also completely refinished and were very well done. They were well lit and very clean so I was more than happy, especially considering the state that they use to be in.

There was a small crowd of about 30 people sitting at the bar and the tables and they had the pens game plastered on the big screens behind the bar with the game on over the house sound system.

My buddy and I order hot wings, and chipotle bbq wings, which were large and tasty and I think they were half off as well, not sure if the special was for happy hour or the game. We also attempted to order appetizers because they were half off as we were told, but they seemed to be out of the first two things we ordered (crab dip & wontons) so we settled for potato skins, which were also good, especially at half price.

The bar staff was attentive and my buddy and I have no problems keeping our glasses full. We were drinking mostly import drafts and they were equally priced with most other places in S.Side. We were not doing any shots but I though I over heard someone say that Jager shots were only $2.25? Whoa!

Id rate Mario's an 8 because of the change in smoking restrictions, attentive bar staff, good wings, great atmospheres, and nice bathrooms. However they lose points for a few small things; our plates sat on the bar for literally and hour and a half, although our drinks were kept full, the bartender just wouldn't touch our plates. They also were out of the first two appetizers we asked for, and the bartender actually told us that they were out of a lot more. While its not uncommon to run out of things, being out of so many was kind of ridiculous.

I would definitely return to Mario's and probably will in the near future.
