OK, first let me say that the food was outstanding.
In fact, if you are downtown for lunch or have a craving for crab and seafood I'd recommed the 1902 tavern.
It seemed rather popular among the Pirates fans as the place was full of people on their way to the game.
I'm not usually impressed with seafood in Pittsburgh but the crab dish I had was outstanding.
In fact, despite having a bad drinking experience the food was so good that I probably will go back.
The prices were pretty reasonable too.
The problem started when I ordered a martini.
Not a complicated one but just a vodka martini.
Now they did have a few nice beers on tap but it is sort of a family tradition to have a vodka martini with dinner.
So I ordered my usual vodka martini up with one olive.
First, it took him about 10 full minutes to come back with our 3 drinks and I got a martini with no olives in it.
Now even without the olive it is still possible to make a good martini.
It turned out however, that aside from the olive they also left out the vodka.
The people I was with had ordered beer so I asked them to taste my martini and afterwards we all agreed that what I had was a glass of straight vermouth.
Normally I would have said something to the waiter to get another drink.
However, remember that I said the place was packed with Pirates fans.
Consequently, it took about 40 minutes to get our food during which time we did not see our watier at all.
When our food did arrive we asked for a glass of water and by the time we were leaving 30 minutes later the water still had not arrived.
Now had it not been a game night I'm sure service would have been better but I'd still be very hesitant to buy another martini there.
Despite the drink fiasco though, I am looking forward to going back there for the crab and seafood again.
