The Library has opened in the south side providing not only a quality run establishment, but also a location that is also unique. Of course from the name of the place, you can guess the d├ęcor. I stopped by on a Saturday night and was quickly met by the hostess that seated me in the bar area and provided dinner and drink menus that were in library books. The items on the menu provide an interesting selection from the "Wings of Icarus" (Buffalo Wings) to the "20,000 Leagues" (Calalmari) to the "Moby Dick" (fish fillet).

The location has a nice sized bar and dining area downstairs. A second bar upstairs with a Pool table and seating for large groups. Additionally there is an outdoor patio once the weather warms up.

If you are looking for someplace different to try, this is a great place to try. Formerly the location of "The Bridge" it is located near the Birmingham Bridge and Carson Street.

Clean, friendly service. Excellent food that isnt churned out en masse. You can tell because the menu is quite small and creative. Drinks were a bit pricey. But they used to have All You Can Eat Crepes on Sundays. Sigh. i wish they'd bring that back. Boo, Library! Boo!

i would not recommend this bar to anyone. some friends and i were there for a birthday. we were seated at 645 (15 mins til the end of their first happy hour). didnt get all of our drinks until 655. we were ready to order at the point but the person that dropped off our drinks wasnt our waitress. so we waited. our server didnt come back to the table until literally 701, at which point i told her i wanted to order some half price apps. she told us they wouldnt be half off cuz it was after 7. i asked her to have a manager discount our food because were were seated and ready to order before happy hour was over. she said she couldnt do that and to just "take it out of my tip." another time before this i was with a large group and showed up a little late. my friends had a table and had already had some food. i was there for 45 minutes and no server ever came to the table. i saw one gentlemen waiting tables in the area where we were seated. i asked if he was our server. he said no. i asked if we have a server at all. he said no. i aksed him where all my friends food and drinks came from. he said you have to order at the bar. i went to the bar to order food and drinks, and the bartender said i had to order from my waitress otherwise she wouldnt make any money. i told him i was told i didnt have a server and that i should order at the bar. he reluctantly rang in my food and drinks. we finally had a server assigned to us. just a side note, she never cleared a single plate from our table. it was an absolute mess. do not expect good service if you go to this bar

The Library is a casual two story restaurant and bar located in Pittsburgh's South Side. The first floor hosts the main bar and seating area while the upstairs contains a smaller bar, pool table, and another seating area. There's also an awesome deck upstairs.

The menu is a bit confusing because all of the items are named after literary references. For example the stuffed tortellini is called The Sarlet Letter. The food is pretty good though.

There is a decent beer selection and the prices aren't bad. The happy hour special is $3 drafts and $3 energy bombs.

My biggest complaint about this place is that the bartenders and waitresses are NOT dressed like sexy librarians. Are you kidding me?

The library is a great place to eat but a bad place to drink. The food there is excellent and the drinks are good, but the service and the atmosphere have something to be desired. I was there once when it was nearly empty and it took a while to get a drink because the bartender was too busy talking to a server. The drinks are way over priced and the atmospere is too stuffy for me.

I think I reviewed this place before but I have to update my review. We stopped in here the other day for dinner and first of all, the food here is not your normal fare but it isn't half bad either. It has kind of a Grecian flare to it so there are sun-dried tomatoes on everything and a lot of different types of spices you may not normally put on your food.
I guess they created the menu to compliment the extraordinary atmosphere. There are books all around the place to give it a library feeling but with a nice long bar downstairs and 3 rooms upstairs with a second bar and an outdoor patio there is plenty of room for drinking and having fun.
The downstairs is mostly for the restaurant and people who are interested in a nice quiet evening in a place named the library but the upstairs is definitely for people who came to get their party on.
There is a pool table in one room and a dart game in the other. The walls are covered in eye-catching artwork also.
The upstairs provides an excellent overhead view for watching the action on E Carson street. On a Friday evening this vantage point alone can provide hours of entertainment.
The best part about the library however, and the reason I'm writing this resume is because of the quality of the drinks. They definitely don't water down your martinis at this place. So if you are tired of spending $50 for a mild buzz at most of the other watering-holes and you are the kind of person who likes to wake up on the floor in the morning wondering who the strange blonde person next to them is then the Library is worth checking out. After just a couple of martinis I was feeling great and the people seemed a whole lot more fun and interesting. One drink led to another and I ended up having my date drive me home. I don't remember what else happened but I woke up next to a woman. OK, it was my wife. But hey, even if you don't get lucky you at least will have a good meal and be able to get as drunk as you want afterwards.
Every day you wake up on the floor in a puddle of your own drool is a good day.

First off I gave this place a 9 because apparently I cant give it a 10, even though it deserves a 12. I had dinner and drinks there last night for the first time with a couple friends. WOW I don't get impressed to often but the service there was second to none. period. I couldnt believe it, the bartender, I believe his name was Rob? (I had a few too many draft beers) BTW I was extremely surpirsed they had Arrogant Bastard beer on Draft! (go ahead) anyways He was unbelievalby friendly, he even brought us over some shots to try out since they were a little slow. The food came quickly, and was absolutely delicious! The staff had perfect timing with asking if you needed another drink before your runs out. I highly, highly recommend the Library. I also think it was a very unique and out of the box concept to go for the library theme! I love how the menu is on the inside of books! Will definately be back again!

I thought this was an terrible bar. I disagree with all other reviews. I had a bad experience at this bar. The female servers were rude and ignored me many times. I felt that the inside was extremely small and not much room to move around. The only thing that I liked about the bar was the outside deck. However, that too was small and difficult to move around but it was pretty. I would not choose or recommend this bar to anyone.

Me and my girlfriend stopped by last saturday night for dinner. Food was amazing. It was like getting 5 star meals @ 4 star pricing. Drink selection was huge. We had some organic hard apple cider. Similar to woodchuck but better. I would definately recommend stopping in for a meal there.

This was a great place for a little pre-party action. My boyfriend, my friend and I went in last saturday and had a few appetizers and drinks and it was an overall really great expirience. The waitstaff was very friendly and the service was excellent. I highly recommend the sweet potato fries and the hummus with pita bread appetizers. Although the drink prices are wrong as listed, its $5 for a captain and coke, which is a little pricey but the food is totally worth it, so drink the beer!

This is definitely a classier bar than most I've been to in Southside. Its a great place to chill with friends and shoot some pool. Drinks were good, not too strong or weak. The bartender/waitstaff are friendly. I'd definitely go back.

I was there for a pub/charity crawl. I was mainly upstairs. I felt like I was at a friends house just chillin. I really liked it. I can't wait to go back and check out the outside deck upstairs next time.

I stopped down at The Library to meet up with a few friends the other day. I had never been there up to that point, nor have I heard of it. But it is right across from Shootz.

When I first got there the people I was meeting were sitting outside and I was promptly greeted by a waitress asking what I would like to drink. I asked what drafts they have and she knowingly rattled off everything they had. Which was a nice change from the usual "I'll check" reply that I get other places.

As the evening chilled off, we moved inside where we got some appetizers. The decor inside has a library appeal down to the menus being actually in books. The lighting at each table was the green book lamps which added to the details.

The appetizers we received were a cheeze platter, and an assorted sampler of sweet potato fries, potato skins, wings, and zuchini somethings...I didn't try any of the food but the reviews at the table were that everything was really good. While seated inside we were visited more than a few times by the bar staff asking if we were okay, need another drink, etc.

Since the place looks so interesting we took a stroll around, then upstairs. Upon taking the steps upstairs there is 3 more rooms, and 2 more bars. The first room has what looks to be a brand new pool table, very classy looking. Beside the pool room is the inside bar. The next room over is more seating with tables and a door that leads to the patio in back. Several people were seated outside on the patio as it was a very comfortable night. It seemed like the type of place to bring a date so you could comfortably talk without having to shout over music. Outside here, there is also another bar.

In my opinion, the upstairs would be "the spot" for a happy hour or a get together with friends. I don't know how busy they get on the weekend, but lots of room to move around and 2 bars to work with.

Overall, a classy atmosphere, great service, excellent drink selection, and plenty of room to find a comfortable spot for whatever your plans are.
