The bar inside of the building located at 5185 Brownsville Road used to be filthy, rickety, greasy, and usually lined elbow to elbow with idiots. That was the past. Now days it's called the Loose Moose Saloon and when I walked into the front door I was nearly blinded by the polished... well polished everything. It was clean. Not only that but the patrons were friendly and talkative. I got my beer before I even sat down, and it was cold. The bathrooms were nice, and the dance floor was so shiny and clean looking I'd have no problem eating my dinner off of it. Oh did I forget to mention that the Loose Moose is the only country music bar in the South Hills? It is, and it's a nice one too. With three pool tables, a fairly large dance floor and just enough stuff on the walls to say 'country' without saying it too loudly, I have no doubt that if other country bars open in the area that the Loose Moose will still be the best.

My experience at "Loose Moose Saloon" was good. They had an event going on the night I was there, so the bar was pretty busy. The drinks were very reasonably priced, and the service was good. The bartenders were pretty attentive despite the larger crowd. I didn't get to try the food, but everything coming out of the kitchen smelled amazing! The look/feel of the place was not my typical hangout. It seemed to have more of a dive bar atmosphere, but it was full of friendly people and I would definitely check it out again. I would recommend to others. Its worth checking out!

Definitely my favorite place for weekend afternoons. Awesome beer/drink specials, great tasting food in big portions! Prices are awesome-sometimes I wonder how they stay in business, but I guess the owner is not greedy. I often tip the waitstaff more than my bill because they are great. Crowd is usually ok as well, older crowds in afternoon, and younger on the late nights/weekends. There are often music concert, and for sport games they have a huge TV as well as projector with great sound. Really a GEM of a place. Its not perfect, so they dont get a 10, but then who/what in the world is?

I have to say the owner of this bar is a nice guy and has a nice bar and good food and friendly staff . I recently had a daughter who was turning 21 and my niece had celebrated her 21st a couple years ago here and it was a good time & there were specials at the bar just for the party & a dj so I decided to have my daughters party there to I am so pleased on how nice that everyone was there from the manager to the cooks to bartenders & wait staff to even the dish washer the night of the party they reserved part of the back bar for our party on a Friday night and had great prices on wings ,hoagie rings ,and pizzas for my party and had it out the time promised and had drink specials for just the party at the bar . Again another great 21st birthday party at the Loose Moose it was a great night . So if you planning to host a get together or party have it here you won't be disappointed thank you once again

Not perfect but a nice place to visit. The Loose Moose is a comfortable dive bar with cheap drinks and food specials and friendly all female bartenders. The food is generally only fair to good but always fairly priced. The Tuesday burger is quite a deal at $1, but it's not a burger you'd otherwise seek out. Apparently an oven-baked patty so they can cook 50 at a time, and when mine was served it wasn't very hot. The free basket of wings Thursdays are better, although theirs is one of the few hot-wing sauces in Pittsburgh that really isn't that good; garlic parm is a better choice. And note that they charge extra for celery or ranch/blue cheese dressing. There are often $2 drink specials, sometimes just the beer of the month, some days/times it's any drink, even a Long Island Iced Tea, which they'll happily make for you. Strangely there's no draft beer at Loose Moose, only bottles and well drinks. The crowd tends to be friendly and sometimes they'll even buy a round for everyone. Feel free do do the same and you'll have a room full of new friends in no time.

This place is a good ole down to earth establishment with friendly and attentive staff, good food, and great daily and monthly specials!
I travel a good bit and this is my first review of an establishment, and I must say I was impressed. I ordered the Monday special of "whole wings" with the house specialty sauce and they were great! Plus the price was unbelievable, 25 cents a wing (on Mondays), the whole wing, not just a section of wing! I haven't seen this kind of pricing since my days in Buffalo NY (1970's) where wings first appeared on the menu. Drink specials and happy hour deals were very reasonable. The atmosphere reminded me of local rural saloon, a bit rustic with pool tables, music and TVs to watch ball games, news or most anything you could request if other patrons were interested as well.
From my experience, I would definitely return on my next venture into the area and try some of the other tasty dishes that they serve up (next one is the half pound hamburger for starters)!
Anyone who is looking for a really good deal and atmosphere with friendly folks will get a good bang for the buck at the
"Loose Moose Saloon".
Cheers!

I like the Loose Moose because it is very comfortable. It's a nice, friendly crowd and no one is pretencious. The bartenders are always friendly and remember what you drink. The food specials are awesome. You could eat out every night of the week for under $20. There are pool tables and poker machines for those who don't like to sit in one spot for long. The drink prices are very reasonable. Friday night is $2 anything from 10 to midnight. I can't beat that anywhere else. The interior is a little outdated but I can live with it. I'd like to see other music genre's on Saturday nights beside the usual rock bands. A dance band would be great. They have the room. I stop in whenever I get a chance. I live in North Hills so it's out of my way but I will be back to see friends.

This is a very nice local bar that has some good food.(And it wasn't a long wait for it either!) The people here are very nice. The staff are very attentive and willing to help with anything that you may need. They have a great big screen to watch games, and have had music their on some of my other visits. The only drawback to this place that I have seen over my visits is that it can be very smokey, so if you don't like this I would choose another location.

I loved the place.I recently visited on a Saturday night when a good band was playing.Good prices, great food but I wondered how much money they were losing by closing the kitchen at 8:30pm and not having any waitresses in the back.I was sitting up front and observed several groups of people leave because they couldn't get any food.

As a regular for the great Happy Hour specials, which no one can beat, The Moose always has a great mix of people. If the place was a biker hangout, grandma and grandpa wouldn't be there for their $1 burgers on Tuesday, or 25 cent wings on Monday.
Those that ride in on their bikes are friendly decent people just enjoying their cold beer! There are never any problems or trouble from the "Section 8" housing nearby.
I love this place!!! The new ownership has completely turned it around from the Big Dawg days. The bartenders and waitresses are the best!

Great food, awesome staff, always a cold one at a good price! What's not to love?

I'm reposting my reply as my review!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The bands are good, but it is extremely loud when they are there!

This is basically a local bar...HOWEVER -

The place turns into either a biker hangout
-OR-
About a mile up the road there is a bunch of section 8 housing which brings wanna-be gangsters and nothing but trouble.

If you go anytime during the week you are safe. They got great specials like $1.00 burgers or $.50 tacos during the week plus have really great prices on drinks.

Some features are their bottle of the month or $2.00 anything on friday / saturday nights from 10-12.

Also, they have bands go there but it is EXTREMELY loud. The place is too small for a band to be cranking like they do. If you want to hear the person next to you, dont go there when there is a band.

McClaren's Wednesday night Mon Valley pool league was away at the Loose Moose last night, and I was happy at first. They have three pool tables set apart somewhat from everything (a lil too close together but not so bad), a separate rectangular bar, as well as a dining area with tables and booths. Its a great use of space in my opinion. They have specials that are almost unthinkable in 2008 and with the FuckTard Onorato tax. Wednesday was $0.50 tacos and since I sent it in a text, i'll write it here (you can get soft or hard and they are quite beefy). I looked at the text after sending it and wasn't really a fan of what I wrote, but hey fuck it, it's the truth. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh which you don't get from many local establishments. It was $2 you call it from 10-12 and my captain and coke wasn't all coke so I was happy. I heard no complaints from my teammates either. We play here again next Wednesday, and I'm looking forward to going back. The bartender was nice. I didn't get a chance to talk to her. She wasn't the fastest which isn't always a bad thing. I got to talk to some of the people at the bar while waiting for my drinks, and everyone was pleasant. Defly no mean muggin was happenin here. Anyway, I got annoyed at like 10 when the dj came on and started playing music from the '80s and '90s. I am not taking off of my rating for the fact that I hate that shit and know that lots of people do like it. Plus the dj not only took requests, he was ENCOURAGING them. Imagine that. A dj actually wanting a bars customers opinions to play what they want to hear.

This is a good "local" bar with a semi-decent beer selection especially if you get bottled beer. Their food is usually pretty good and they have different specials throughout the week. The entertainment ranges from a DJ that'll play just about anything (with a slant towards country) to all kinds of bands. It's fairly clean inside but can get smoky. They have three (I think) pool tables and a couple of dart boards. It's a good place to hang out after work for happy hour and you can take the whole family.

For a lightly country themed bar, I shall enter my review in kind:
The Good - Competent, friendly staff, abundant selection of drinks, and great specials (Amstel and Heineken products for 1.50 all day all month Jan. 07) the food is above average for bar-fare; the wings are large and whole, the burgers juicy, and the salads are bigger than your head.
The Bad - Nothing here. We've been to this bar several times, all good.
The Ugly - More than one report that the Women's Room leaves MUCH to be desired. The Men's room isn't great but it serves its purpose.
Tuesday is 1$ burger night there are daily food and drink specials - definitely worth checking out.
